Germans want more influence in their local communities according to a survey financed by the German Federal Ministry of Education. Federal Research Minister Johanna Wanka commented the result in the following way: “The city of the future can only function as a community project. The task now is to bring the ideas of scientists, the ideas of local people and stakeholders in the cities and communities together. With the competitive future city we want to promote this interaction and improve.” More direct democracy is then required, put in practice, ICT is an obvious bridge. In addition, more than 71 percent of Germans see according to the survey a stronger need for consultation of local politics by scientific experts.
