A new study based on the result of data from the Pisa-test in 772 Australian schools and 12 018 student observations compares the result of the answers about personal interest and the actual outcome of the test-results. The analysis finds that: “The results suggest that using online social networks reduces academic achievement. Conversely, playing online games increases scores.” The study is called “Internet Usage and Educational Outcomes Among 15-Year-Old Australian Students” by Alberto Posso at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology shows that games allow students to apply and sharpen skills learned in school especially in mathematics, reading and science, while in contradiction using online social networks had a negative effect on these results.
