Latest News: New Pedagogy in Police Academy

The Police Academy, Garda College, in Ireland has during the past year implemented a new pedagogical direction of its courses. The police training that dates back to 1786 changing from a traditional teaching-by-telling method to a problem-based pedagogy. This method focus on engaging and activating the students in the learning-process in comparison to its passivating counterpart. Learning by doing, and trial and error are vital terms in the problem-based learning. The courses also work closely with the Law School at the Limerick University, which brings additional valuable input to the aspiring polices future work. Approximately 24,000 candidates applied for the first 100 places. Source: Irish Times
