The start of the Primary school in Finland also includes the introduction of a brand new curriculum with focus on active learning- and an interdisciplinary science approach. Seven competences work as driving forces for the educational efforts; the ability to learn to learn and think, cultural and communicative competence, everyday-life competence, digital competence, multiple-literacy, working-life competence, entrepreneurial skills and ability to contribute to a sustainable society. To accomplish these general goals subjects like e.g. geography, biology, chemistry and physics are transformed into one subject-field, environmental science. At the same time as coding and computer science will be an integrated part of the general education. Another focus of the new curriculum is personalised learning where e.g. the teacher should give more individual response to the pupils, which is made possible by the use of technology in education. Again, it seems like Finland will work as a role model for the rest of the world in the field of education in order to meet the challenges of the 21st Century. Source: YLE Nyheter
